Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) was the outcome of the effort put in by the US government to propose new standards which will apply to all “covered entities” and it will be required that all the “covered entities” implement all the different rules proposed in the HIPAA law which will enable protection of health information of individuals.
